Rosalía shares sneak peek of new music
Two years on from ‘Motomami,’ the singer has shared a few seconds of what appears to be one of the tracks that will be part of her next album
On Tuesday, Rosalía posted a message inviting her almost five million followers on X, and anyone else who felt like it, to a live broadcast on her Instagram account, which has more than 27 million followers. There was nothing unusual about the message. The Spanish singer regularly uses social media to share content and to talk to her followers live. The difference is that this time she invited them to listen to a few seconds of what appears to be a song from a possible new album.
The livestream — which was watched by up to 30,000 people at some points — began with Rosalía and two friends fielding questions from followers on topics such as whether they prefer to be dumper or the dumpee in a relationship and what they think about ghosting. The singer goes on to say that having curly hair does not mean that it is dirty, and starts heating up a stew so that she can later “watch a [John] Galliano documentary.” “This is what I ask of life,” she says.
Then she lights a cigarette. Rosalía explains that she has stopped smoking, but this morning there is caused for “celebration.” And that’s when she hits the play button on her laptop, and places it close to her cell phone’s microphone. A song starts playing. Rosalía fans have already deciphered the lyrics, although given the sound quality — the track was played on a laptop and then recorded by a phone — they may not be 100% accurate.
According to the social media users, these are the lyrics to the first verses (pending final confirmation, which will come with the official release), and their English translation.
Por todo lo que soy, yo puedo frontear / For all that I am, I can flex
No por lo que tenga, siempre me la dan / Not because of what I have, they’re always attacking me
Mi energía está inmaculá / My energy is immaculate
Bajo perfil, tú estás fuera / Low profile, you’re out
Vivo pa cantar, no canto pa vivir / I live to sing, I don’t sing to live
Ni una era será flop en mi porvernir / Not an era will be a flop in my future
Puta soy la Rosalía, solo sé servir / Bitch I’m Rosalía, I only know how to serve
La noche estrellá, así sea / The starry night, so be it
Hasta la madrugá, que así sea / Until dawn, so be it

Then Rosalía stops the song: “This is as far as we go. This is the preview, darling, and it’s all we can show today.” She says this while making a gesture similar to the one she made during her Motomami tour that turned into a meme (see below).

Rosalía shares just a few seconds of the new song, but it is clear that it has many of the elements of her previous album: trap, reggaeton, rap, flamenco and electronic music.
It’s been more than two years since Rosalía released Motomami in March 2022. And one year since she finished the Motomami world tour, on which she created one new song: Despechá. Since then, Rosalía has left the stage, but she has not left the limelight. She is working in the United States on her new work, as she has explained on social media.
Rosalía covered Manuel Alejandro at the Latin Grammy Awards and sent a message to her ex-partner Rauw Alejandro, singing Se Nos Rompió El Amor (Our Love Broke). The singer also attended the MET Gala, co-hosted a prelude to the Paris Olympic Games and, in addition to being the face of brands such as Dior, is fuelling internet gossip with her walks through flower markets with actor Jeremy White Allen, the star of the series The Bear.

Rosalía is also active on social media. She gives regular updates on her life in the United States and narrates her visits to different cities around the world. At the request of her fans, she does live videos showcasing the lipstick and eyeliner she uses. Nothing is random, no matter how out of focus the photo on her social media is. As was seen with the launch of Motomami, which premiered worldwide on TikTok, Rosalía sets the pace. For now, “this is the preview, darling.” We will have to wait for more.
