Christmas arrives hand in hand with a multitude of traditions, among them, Christmas-themed movies that are repeated year after year. For this reason, the leasing company Vanarama has analyzed the most popular blockbusters, focusing on cars, to determine which ones appear the most often.

To answer the question, Vanarama reviewed the 20 most famous Christmas movies, such as Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually and Die Hard, among others. The analysis counted 367 vehicles and determined which brand is the most popular, which model appears most often, or the type of bodywork preferred by the directors.

Ford: the Christmas car

Ford is the manufacturer that appears most often in the 20 Christmas movies analyzed. With a presence in 18 of the 20 feature films, it appears 68 times in total: its prominence is greatest in Christmas with the Kranks and Gremlins (both with 10 appearances). The only films that do not feature a Ford are The Santa Claus 2 and The Santa Claus 3.

The second most-used car manufacturer in Christmas movies is Chevrolet, with 39 appearances: its cars appear in 14 of the 20 productions analyzed. It is also the brand with the most appearances in Home Alone 2, with a total of seven Chevrolets in the film. It also features in Office Christmas Party and Love Actually.

Third place goes to Toyota, which appears 20 times. The Christmas movie with the most vehicles from the Japanese manufacturer is Christmas with the Kranks, which features five models. Overall, Toyota appears in 11 of the 20 productions.

The most Christmassy model

The most prominent vehicle in the 20 Christmas movies analyzed, with 13 appearances, is the Ford Crown Victoria, an iconic model as it the most widely used by U.S. law enforcement. The title with the most units, five, is Elf.

The second most used car is the Ford Econoline, which appears nine times, most often in Die Hard, followed by Home Alone (including the second installment), The Santa Claus and Fred Claus.

Most popular vehicle types

Analyzing the study by segment, the leading role goes to sedans: the vehicle of choice for filmmakers in Christmas movies. Not surprisingly, they appear 156 times, 121 times more than pick-up trucks, which are in second place. Third place goes to coupe-style models, which appear 33 times.

Christmas movies with the most cars

Christmas with the Kranks features the widest range, with 43 cars in total, closely followed by Home Alone 2, which has 41 vehicles. In third place is Love Actually, with 35. Considering it is an action film, it is perhaps surprising that Die Hard does not have a place on the podium: it comes fifth with 28 models.
