How Jennifer Lopez reacted to the viral videos of Ben Affleck looking miserable at the Grammys
During the awards ceremony, the actor was caught on camera looking less than thrilled to be there, raising questions about why he appeared so unhappy
At the 65th Grammy Awards on Sunday, Ben Affleck did not look like he was attending an event to celebrate the best music of 2022, but rather waiting to see a dentist. Videos of his pained expression went viral on Monday, providing fodder for many jokes and memes on social media. The actor attended the event with his wife, singer Jennifer Lopez, who had been invited to present one of the awards. But the viral videos of Affleck raised questions about the couple’s relationship, with many asking: why does he look so miserable?
“Jen and Ben had a fun date night out at the Grammys, but they have both have been very busy working on several projects, and Ben was feeling tired,” a source close to the couple told ET Canada. “He wanted to go and support Jen, but he wasn’t his usual self.”
During the awards ceremony, Affleck was caught on camera looking less-than-thrilled by the situation. He appeared visibly tired, uncomfortable and even as though he was suffering. “Ben Affleck is how every man dragged to a couples [sic] baby shower looks,” a Twitter user joked.

One of the most-commented moments of the night is an exchange where Lopez appears to be telling Affleck to make more of an effort. According to the British tabloid The Daily Mail, which commissioned a lip-reader to review the sequence, Lopez tells Affleck: “Look more friendly. Look motivated.” To which Affleck allegedly replies: “I might.”

Seconds later – after realizing they were being filmed as host Trevor Noah performed a sketch – Lopez and Affleck changed expressions and put on a happy face.
“[Lopez] knows how supportive Ben is towards her and her work, but also gets that Ben is more of a homebody, and it isn’t his thing to be out at events all the time,” the source told ET Canada.
Following the jokes and memes about Affleck at the Grammys, Lopez posted a video on her Instagram account that appeared to subtly dismiss the questions about their relationship. In the video, the singer is seen arriving at the Grammys and kissing Affleck as the song As It Was by Harry Styles – who took home the Grammy for Best Album of the Year – plays in the background. The message that accompanies the video to her 234 million followers reads: “Always the best time with my love, my husband.”
