Jennifer Lopez sells her Bel-Air home, complete with lake, beach and 100-person amphitheater, for $34 million

The performing artist put the property, built on a 32,400-square-meter lot, up for sale last February, when she moved to an even bigger mansion in Beverly Hills with Ben Affleck

In 2016, Jennifer Lopez was a single woman at a great time in her career. She had been dating dancer Casper Smart for a few months, only to break up with him shortly after. She had just shot a movie, The Boy Next Door, was producing a show and starring in another, and served as a judge for another season on the music contest show American Idol. She designed shoes. She was an authoritative voice against Donald Trump. She had separated from Marc Anthony, the father of her children, five years earlier (in fact, he had married and separated again), and they maintained a cordial relationship. And, with money in her pocket, she decided to buy a house in the hills of Los Angeles, in the luxurious Bel-Air, a place that is more exclusive than exclusive. The house was located in an area full of mansions surrounded by trees, where each house is quiet and secluded. The new home for her new life cost $28 million. Today, that house is no longer hers: Lopez’s life is different now; she has moved and sold it for $34 million.

Now, in 2023, Lopez doesn’t live in that home in Bel-Air anymore. Since early 2017, the artist had been in a relationship with former baseball player Alex Rodriguez. The couple split up in 2021 when she reconnected with Ben Affleck, whom she had dated 20 years earlier. Lopez and Affleck married in the summer of 2022 and moved in together. Consequently, their respective homes were left empty, and they decided to sell them. Affleck sold his house this past August for $30 million. Lopez put her house on sale in February of this year for $42.5 million, then lowered the asking price to $40 million, and finally got rid of it. At 32,400 square meters —a very large space for an area like Bel-Air—the house has nine bedrooms, twelve and a half bathrooms, a movie theater for 30 people, a theater that fits over 100 spectators and a private lake with a sandy beach.

The new owner of the luxurious and spacious building is unknown. Carolwood Estates, the agency in charge of the transaction, speaks of “a mystery buyer.” For her part, Lopez bought the home in 2016 from actress Sela Ward (House, CSI: New York) and her husband, businessman Howard Sherman. The house was built in 1940 based on a design by architect Samuel Marx; since then, it has undergone several renovations that have given it an air of the French countryside and made wood and stone the prominent materials. The multilevel house has a large living room with large windows facing the trees, as well as a spiral staircase, a wood-lined library, a huge kitchen with two marble islands, a dozen indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a billiard and games room with a bar and a large fully equipped gym.

The three-story house overlooks a heated swimming pool and Jacuzzi, as well as several fountains and ponds distributed throughout the property. The grounds also include a guest house and a large 30-car garage, as well as a pavilion with a full kitchen, an amphitheater that can seat over 100 guests, a pagoda with fire pits and a lake with a beach and showers.

A few months ago, Affleck and Lopez moved into a 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom Beverly Hills mansion that they bought for about $60 million. The house originally cost $135 million and was considered the most expensive in all of Los Angeles County, but the couple managed to buy it at an impressive discount. The house has a cinema, sauna, massage room, wine cellar and whiskey room, indoor basketball and pickleball courts, gym, two-bedroom guest house and a 47-meter (154-feet) outdoor pool; several real estate websites say that it is the largest property in Beverly Hills.

Jennifer Lopez bought her first house in the Hollywood Hills in 2000 for just over $4 million and then sold it to a nightclub owner for more than $12.5 million in 2004, shortly after she married Marc Anthony in her garden. Fellow singer Gwen Stefani later purchased the house. In addition, Lopez also has a house in Miami, which she bought in 2002, and she and Anthony bought another home on Long Island. In 2014, the singer got a penthouse in Manhattan, overlooking Madison Square Park, for $20 million. After her breakup with Alex Rodriguez, Lopez tried to sell the apartment in 2017 but eventually took it off the real estate market. In fact, she bought another apartment in New York with Rodriguez in 2016, which they sold less than a year later. The couple also shared a house in Malibu —which they sold in 2020, just a year after buying it—and a 10-bedroom house in Miami’s Star Island.
