Irishman arrested after throwing suitcase full of cocaine out of hotel window

The 39-year-old, known only as P. G., was caught in possession of 55 kilos of the drug in Valencia

Police in Valencia say they have arrested an Irish national after he threw a suitcase containing several kilograms of cocaine out of his eighth-floor hotel window on the night of August 8.

The 39-year-old, who has been named only as P. G., had just checked into the four-star hotel in the City of Arts and Sciences district. The suitcase fell into an inner terrace and opened, whereupon hotel staff immediately called the police.

When police officers arrived they went to the man’s room where they found another suitcase filled with several more bags of cocaine. In total, they seized 55 kilograms with an estimated street value of €3.3 million, and arrested him.

Police sources say the man may have freaked out and believed he was being pursued by other drug traffickers

Hotel staff have refused to comment on the incident, although at the weekend a worker at the establishment told a local newspaper that the man was “out of control and his eyes were blank,” as though he had consumed drugs.

Police sources say the man may have freaked out and believed he was being pursued by other drug traffickers. He initially tried to hide the drugs in his room and then in desperation threw them out of the window.
