Police make eight arrests in connection with “Dignity March” disturbances

Members of a radical group dedicated to infiltrating demonstrations among those detained

Madrid -

Police on Friday arrested eight people in Madrid in connection with the disturbances and alleged attacks on law enforcement officers during the anti-government protests on March 22.

According to authorities, a further nine people are expected to be charged with violations committed during the demonstration. Violence erupted when a group of protestors began smashing windows and vandalizing buildings in Madrid’s Colón square at the end of the Dignity March.

The arrests are part of Operation Puma 70, named after the anti-riot squad that confronted the protestors, police sources said. All of the arrests took place in Madrid.

Among those detained are members of several radical groups, such as the bukaneros, which, police say, infiltrate peaceful demonstrations in an effort to cause disturbances.
