Ex-Aznar spokesman detained on drink-driving charge
Miguel Ángel Rodríguez found by police to be four times over the legal limit
An ex-spokesman for the former government of Prime Minister José María Aznar was detained by police in the early hours of Friday morning in Madrid after hitting a number of parked cars in a narrow street. He was found to be four times over the legal alcohol limit.
Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, the secretary of state for communication under Aznar’s Popular Party government from 1996 to 1998, hit two vehicles on the left of the street, and, after turning sharply, hit another on the right.
After arriving at the scene, the municipal police breathalyzed Rodríguez. The test gave a reading of 0.99 grams of alcohol per liter of air expelled. The limit is 0.25 grams. Rodríguez was charged with drunk driving and faces trial on May 20. He later apologized for the incident on his Twitter account.
