The Civil Guard on Tuesday confirmed they had found “in similar circumstances” the frozen body of a second baby in a freezer in the same house where they had discovered the corpse of an infant on November 9. The second baby was found in a different freezer unit.

The mother of the first baby, named as 34-year-old Sara L. H., has been in prison since November 12 on murder charges. The Civil Guard on Tuesday searched two properties belonging to the family of the detained woman.

Agents escorted the woman to her home as part of efforts to clarify what exactly had happened.

The woman, who is pregnant again, has confirmed the first baby was hers. The body was found by her husband when he was cleaning the freezer. The husband also later found the second corpse and informed the authorities.

An initial autopsy of the body of the first baby found it was born alive 17 months before its corpse was found, although the exact cause of death is still unknown. The woman denied she had killed the child, claiming she had wanted it but that it was stillborn, and that she had kept the corpse in the freezer because she didn’t want “to get rid of it.”

The woman has two other children, aged 11 and 14, who live with her in the same house in which the corpses of the two babies were found.

“Something very strange is going on here as after the discovery (of the two bodies) we have the fact the woman is eight months pregnant,” said Jesús María Sánchez, the mayor of the Pilas district of Seville where the woman lives. “It’s unbelievable.”
