Explosives left 12 years ago by terrorists found in Madrid park
GRAPO reported to have left material, including a cellphone, lists of names and news clippings
Street cleaners on Monday stumbled across a container in a Madrid park that held explosives, a cellphone and several documents. Police sources confirmed that the items had been there for around 12 years, and that they had been left by the anti-capitalist terrorist group GRAPO.
The municipal workers discovered the container in the Emperatriz María de Austria park, which is located near the Fernández Ladreda square, also known as Plaza Elíptica.
Bomb disposal officers cordoned off the area, and transferred all of the material to the police laboratory, where it will be checked for fingerprints.
Among the documentation found were lists of names and times, as well as press clippings.
