Fabra presents asset list to cover €4.2m bail

Castellón Popular Party chief facing charges of fraud, bribery and influence peddling

María Fabra

The Popular Party leader in the province of Castellón, Carlos Fabra, and his ex-wife María Amparo Fernandéz, on Monday presented a list of assets to be embargoed to cover bail imposed upon them by the courts of 4.2 million and 800,000 euros respectively.

Fabra faces charges of fraud, bribery and influence-peddling for allegedly embezzling 1.2 million euros from public coffers. The judge imposed the bail in the case that Fabra and Fernández are found guilty. The pair were given the choice of paying cash, or proffering a list of assets.

Another defendant, businessman Vicente Villar, who brought the charges against Fabra and was later implicated himself, has not responded to a bail demand. His ex-wife Montserrat Vives has declared herself bankrupt in the face of the 800,000 euros sought by the court.
