Tourist dies after hotel gas explosion

A 55-year-old Norwegian tourist has died from injuries sustained in an explosion close to a hotel where she was staying in a tourist resort on Gran Canaria.

The woman, named as Anits B. L., died in the early hours of Thursday morning at a hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she had been transferred from the hotel where the explosion occurred in the resort area of Mogán.

There are also concerns for the life of Yedna B. C., a 22-year-old Cuban immigrant who was working at the hotel as a cleaner and has burns covering 90 percent of her body. Another female worker has been hospitalized with burns, while a man who was injured is also receiving medical attention.

The blast took place at a gas tank facility close to the hotel. An investigation is ongoing.
