Famed Catalan chef passes away while on Singapore trip
Michelin-starred restaurauter Santi Santamaría passes away at age of 53
Celebrated Catalan chef Santi Santamaría died on Wednesday at a restaurant he owned in Singapore. Sanatamaría, whose Can Fabes restaurant in Barcelona has held three Michelin stars since 1994, was 53 years old.
The chef was visiting his establishment, Santi, which is run by his daughter in the Marina Bay area of Singapore, when he collapsed at 8.30pm local time.
Tributes from the culinary world poured out after the news broke. The culture chief of the Catalan regional government, Ferran Mascarell, lamented Santamaría's passing "at a moment of creative effervescence."
