The former president hinted that he would announce a run for the White House in 2024 once the midterm elections are over

Former US president Donald Trump hinted Tuesday morning that he will shortly announce his intention to run for the White House again in 2024. Speaking from the airport in Dayton, Ohio, the Republican said he will make an official statement about a possible presidential bid later this month. “I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida,” he said, in reference to his Florida home.

Trump did not provide more information, saying he did not want to “detract” from the midterm elections. Americans are voting on Tuesday to elect all 435 seats in the House of Representatives (two-year terms) and 35 of the 100 Senate seats (six-year terms). Polls predict that the Republicans will regain control of the House, with the party set to pick up 25 more seats – enough for a majority. Polls also indicate that they could gain a majority in the Senate.

In recent days, Trump has used the midterm election campaign to put himself back in the spotlight and repeat his false claims that the 2020 presidential election, won by Joe Biden, was stolen. Last Thursday, he told crowds: “Get ready, that’s all I’m telling you, very soon. Get ready.” To date, Democrat Grover Cleveland is the only US president who has served non-consecutive terms, from 1885 to 1889 and 1893 to 1897.
