Prime minister visits hospital where Ebola patient is being treated
Mariano Rajoy meets with medical team taking care of nursing assistant

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, and the head of the Madrid regional government, Ignacio González, made a surprise visit on Friday to the Carlos III Hospital, where a nursing assistant who contracted the Ebola virus while caring for a Spanish missionary is being treated.
Both the politicians met with the medical team that has been attending to Teresa Romero since the early hours of Tuesday. The PM went to the hospital after the conclusion of his weekly Cabinet meeting.
He later spoke to the press outside the hospital regarding the condition of the nursing assistant and the other 13 patients who are in isolation and under observation due to the risk that they may have contracted the virus. Rajoy thanked the medical teams at Carlos III Hospital for their “efforts, dedication and work,” and said he was there to assure them that they had the “support of the government and the region,” and the “immense majority of the Spanish people.”
He also assured the public that “the risk of contagion [of the Ebola virus] is very low.”
Latest reports from the hospital say that Romero is in a stable but critical condition, after having suffered pulmonary problems on Thursday.
