Madrid protestors aim to go global
Democracia Real Ya organization schedules worldwide demo for October 15
The grassroots organization Democracia Real Ya, which masterminded the May 15 protest against Spain's political class and spawned a series of demonstrations across the country, on Monday announced that it will try to go global with a worldwide protest scheduled for October 15.
The diverse group - which includes a majority of youngsters but also older people who are struggling to make ends meet - is collecting signatures to request a reform of Spain's electoral law and greater citizen participation in the democratic process.
Meanwhile, protestors who began camping out in Madrid's Sol square in the wake of the May 15 protest decided to stay put until at least Wednesday, when they will review their situation.
