Contador to discover doping fate before Tour
Court of Arbitration for Sport decision on cyclist's positive sample expected by July 2
Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador is expected to know the outcome of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)'s deliberations over whether he should be banned for doping before the start of this year's Tour de France on July 2, CAS has announced.
CAS said the written proceedings of the case were likely to be finished in May, allowing for a hearing to be held in June and a decision to be reached by the end of that month.
It also named Israeli lawyer Efraim Barak as the chair of the three-man panel that will judge the appeals by the International Cycling Union and the World Anti-Doping Agency against the Spanish Cycling Federation's decision to clear Contador after a positive test for clenbuterol at last year's Tour. The panel will also consist of Quentin Byrne-Sutton of Switzerland and Germany's Ulrich Haas.
