Miley Cyrus’s plane forced to make emergency landing in Paraguay after lightning strike
The singer had to cancel her concert in Asunción due to the bad weather and will not head to Brazil for her next performance

A powerful electric storm has ruined Miley Cyrus’s plans in Paraguay. The plane that was taking the American singer, songwriter and actress from Santiago to Asunción was hit by a lightning bolt and had to make an emergency landing in Ciudad del Este, which is 320 kilometers (198 miles) from her destination. The pop star, who had just appeared at the Lollapalooza music festival in Argentina and Chile, provided information about the incident via her social media accounts.
“To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción,” she wrote via Twitter. “Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting. My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing.”
This message was accompanied by a short video of the lightning as seen from inside the plane. Once she was on the ground, she also published a photo of the damage that the lightning bolt had done to one of the wings of the plane. “We were unfortunately unable to fly into Paraguay,” she continued. “💔 I LOVE YOU.”

The 29-year-old artist was one of the star attractions of the Asunciónico 2022 festival, which on Tuesday night was forced to cancel all concerts due to the bad weather.
I wish I could’ve STAYed & performed for all of my fans in Paraguay. Please STAY safe. I love you . 🖤 (also if you can’t tell I’m a little sick, I think just super exhausted from the stress of yesterday! Got a few days to recover before BRAZIL!) https://t.co/gtXHC7AJgh pic.twitter.com/C7IlPp7f7t

Cyrus later published a video where she dedicated a song to her fans in Paraguay, while she relaxed in a bubble bath. “I think [I am] just super exhausted from the stress of yesterday! Got a few days to recover before BRAZIL!” she wrote in the accompanying tweet.
The bad weather also caused the cancelation of Wednesday night’s concerts at Asunciónico 2022. As well as Cyrus, the organizers had invited Nicki Nicole from Argentina, Jhay Cortez and the Uruguayan band La Vela Puerca.
