The FIFA is getting ready for the 2026 World Cup. 104 matches will be played with 48 teams who will try to win the iconic trophy. For the first time, this year’s championship will be hosted by three countries: Mexico, Canada and the United States. The planning has had a focus on facilitating travel for teams and fans around the three countries. While Mexico will be responsible for the inauguration in the legendary Estadio Azteca, the U.S. will host the final game and most of the championship’s matches.
The 23rd FIFA World Cup is going to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, a total of 40 days, making it the longest ever in the history of the competition. Here’s all the information about the event.
When is the World Cup 2026: Inauguration, Rounds, Semifinals and final match
The FIFA has announced the official dates for every game of the Cup. This will be the longest ever World Cup — lasting 40 days — after the 1998 FIFA World Cup, which spanned 32 days.
- Inauguration: June 11, 2026, at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City
- Group Stage: From June 11 to June 27, 2026.
- Round of 32: From June 28 to July 3, 2026.
- Round of 16: From July 4 to July 7, 2026 at the Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
- Semifinals: July 14 and 15, 2026 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
- Third place play-off: July 18, 2026, at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens.
- Final game of the World Cup 2026: July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey.

16 cities around the three countries will host the World Cup. Here’s the list for each country.
- United States: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
- México: Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
- Canada: Toronto and Vancouver.

The United States will host 78 matches, including the quarter-finals onward. Mexico and Canada will host 13 matches.
