The second edition of Mad Cool, the Spanish capital’s biggest annual music event, which will take place next year from July 6 to July 8, has added Kings of Leon, Alt-J and Belle and Sebastian to a line-up that already includes Foo Fighters and Green Day, along with Wolf Alice and Machinedrum.

A total of 170 bands will be playing at the three-day event, one of Europe’s biggest, which attracted some 102,000 people to Madrid’s Caja Mágica stadium in June of this year.

Mad Cool attracted visitors from 40 countries last year

The first batch of 10,000 tickets went on sale on Wednesday and sold out within five hours.

Mad Cool is a joint initiative between Madrid City Hall and a consortium of promoters that include Live Nation, audiovisual and music firm Zircozine, and TV company La Competencia. The total economic impact on the capital of the first edition was estimated by City Hall at €23 million. It attracted visitors from 40 countries, with most overseas music fans coming from the United Kingdom, France and Italy. The regional government says that for every euro it invested in the event, it generated €34.

Last year some 70 bands performed at the 176,000-square-meter compound around the Caja Mágica, located some five kilometers south of central Madrid. Among the big names were Neil Young, The Who and The Prodigy.
