Who does Spain sell weapons to?
Check our graph to see which countries bought the most defense equipment and technology
In 2015, Spain exported defense equipment and dual-use technology worth over €3.7 billion. The above map shows how much each country bought, according to figures released by the secretary of state for trade.
The list is topped by Germany, which bought Spanish military and dual-use goods worth over €646 million. The sale of four cargo aircraft makes up a large chunk of this amount.
Saudi Arabia paid €533 million for two aerial refueling aircraft while Britain purchased two more freight aircraft, becoming Spain’s largest defense customers last year.
The trade secretary’s report breaks the sales down into four categories: defense equipment, which is meant to have a military use; dual-use technologies, which are normally employed in civilian purposes but could be used by the military as well; hunting and sports-oriented equipment which is not fully automated and cannot be used in a military context; and riot gear for law enforcement agencies.
