WhatsApp messages from survivor of train crash left husband fearing the worst

"Accident. Don’t know if I’ll make it out. Stifling. Crushed.” This is the WhatsApp message that Susana Relaño, 46, sent her husband at 8.45pm on Wednesday from inside the train wreckage of the Santiago de Compostela crash.
“I was waiting for her in A Coruña, and when I alerted the train station staff they still didn’t know the train had derailed. Five minutes later my wife sent me another message saying, ‘Safe and sound’.”
This testimony is from her husband Arcadio, who explained those were the longest five minutes of his life.
Miraculously, Susana emerged from the wreckage with just a few scratches on her legs. She has already been discharged from La Rosaleda hospital in Santiago.
The couple still can’t believe what has happened. Only Susana’s purse, which is covered with blood, proves that she was there, inside the eighth car of a train that crashed and killed 78 people. Susana and Arcadio are now going to spend the weekend in Santander, to celebrate the fact that she’s been born again.
