PP'S HIDDEN FINANCES

Police analysts attribute handwriting in PP ledgers to ex-treasurer

Luis Bárcenas had denied putting together the documents, which detail secret payments

Police graphologist experts are convinced that the ledgers showing a double accounting system within the governing Popular Party were written by the hand of Luis Bárcenas.

The analysts have attributed the calligraphy in 14 pages of accounts to former party treasurer Bárcenas. The secret ledgers detail a series of alleged illegal payments to the party by donors, as well as cash amounts handed over to senior PP figures. Bárcenas has denied being the author of the papers.

The police’s forensic document analysis department said that the “letters and numerals” in the accounts “have been written by Luis Bárcenas Gutiérrez.” However, it did note that it had only been able to study photocopies and therefore “caution” should be exercised.
