Judge swoops for duke’s palace after he fails to pay bond
Court set to embargo Urdangarin and Princess Cristina's Barcelona mansion
The judge overseeing the Nóos corruption case Thursday asked the king’s son-in-law Iñaki Urdangarin and his former business partner, Diego Torres, for a list of assets liable for embargo after the pair did not post the 8.1-million-euro bond imposed on them.
With the deadline to pay the bond having passed midnight Wednesday, it is now within investigating Judge José Castro’s power to seize property from the duo, who are accused of siphoning off public funds via their non-profit Nóos Institute. The most valuable piece of realty owned by the Duke of Palma, with his wife Princess Cristina, is a mansion in Barcelona’s upscale Pedralbes area, which they bought for 5.4 million euros in 2005.
