Zapatero sets out for UAE, Qatar and Tunisia

Aiming to boost economic ties and show support for Tunisia's transition process, PM Zapatero heads to the Middle East and North Africa

Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero on Sunday began a trip to Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Tunisia. In the first two countries, the Spanish leader will seek to reinforce business ties and explore opportunities for Spanish companies in the infrastructure, renewable energy and food sectors.

Zapatero, who is scheduled to meet Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani on Monday will also stop in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Tuesday in a bid to attract investment from wealthy Gulf states. The PM's visit to Tunisia is designed to demonstrate Spain's support for the transition process following the popular uprising in the North African country. It was, however, not known who would receive Zapatero after Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi stepped down on Sunday.
