EL PAÍS, the leading Spanish-language news outlet, will take part this week in the NAHJ Conference & Expo, the largest gathering of Hispanic journalists in the United States. Organized by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), the annual conference will be held in New Orleans. EL PAÍS US, the newspaper’s Spanish-language edition for the United States, will headline one of the conference’s featured events on Wednesday, July 22, with the participation of EL PAÍS Editor-in-Chief Jan Martínez Ahrens. Martínez Ahrens will also join a panel discussion alongside Ginger Thompson (ProPublica), Mari Torres (CNN) and Alfredo Corchado (Puente News), moderated by journalist Paola Ramos.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is the leading organization representing Latino journalists in the United States. Founded in 1984, it brings together thousands of media professionals, students, and academics to promote greater diversity in newsrooms, support the professional development of Hispanic journalists, and strengthen rigorous coverage of Latino communities. Its annual conference is the premier gathering of Hispanic journalism in the United States, attracting leading news organizations, editors, reporters, and media companies.

In addition to Martínez Ahrens’ appearance on Wednesday, EL PAÍS US will participate in a panel on Friday, July 24, examining the challenges Afro-Latino journalists face in U.S. Spanish-language media. The discussion will feature Paola Nagovitch, managing editor of the newspaper’s U.S. edition.

EL PAÍS launched its United States edition in May 2024. Aimed at a Spanish-speaking community of more than 60 million people, the initiative reinforces the newspaper’s international strategy and strengthens its presence across the Americas, where it already publishes dedicated editions in Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, as well as EL PAÍS in English.

Since its launch, EL PAÍS US has focused on covering the stories, challenges, and opportunities shaping Hispanic and Latino communities across the United States, combining national reporting with a strong local perspective. Its journalists are based throughout the country, from New York to California, and are supported by EL PAÍS’ global newsroom of nearly 400 journalists across Europe, Latin America, and other regions, including in Mexico and across Latin America. In addition to its website, EL PAÍS US has social media accounts on Instagram, X, and Facebook.
