The fastest-charging EVs you can buy today
Some electric vehicles on the market can theoretically achieve an 870-mile range in one hour

The charging times of electric cars can be a factor that discourages buyers from considering a zero-emission vehicle. However, some models now support fast charging, making EVs a more appealing option. A study by Edmunds and P3 Group analyzed over 40 electric car models and calculated the range they can achieve during a one hour of charging. They also tested the maximum DC load power, which determines the additional range a car can achieve. However, it’s important not to overcharge, as it can have a negative impact on battery life.
Per the Edmunds/P3 tests, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 single motor is the fastest-charging electric car you can buy today, achieving an impressive range of 868 miles in just one hour. South Korean automakers have a firm grip on this list: in second place is the rear-wheel drive Kia EV6 (768 miles); in third is the 4x4 variant of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (764 miles); and in fifth place is the Kia EV6 GT (678 miles). Only the Porsche Taycan 4S broke the Korean dominance with a fourth-place finish of 690 miles in one hour.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Hyundai Ioniq 5 dual motor, the Mercedes EQS, the Genesis G80, the Porsche Taycan GTS and Tesla’s Model 3. The study also tested how quickly the cars can add 100 miles of range (maximum DC load power). The Hyundai Ioniq 6 won again, adding 100 miles of range in just 6 minutes and 54 seconds.
