Magnesium citrate: What it’s for and how to take it
Here’s a look at the properties and benefits of this supplement

The food supplement industry is a sector in constant growth. Most supplements work to give our bodies essential vitamins and minerals. Though we consume most of them in our foods if we follow a healthy, balanced diet, sometimes we may need extra supplements.
Benefits and contraindications of magnesium citrate
Magnesium is a mineral that helps the body function correctly. It helps with the production of serotonin, the functioning of the nervous system and to maintain bones and muscles.
As a supplement, magnesium helps people who struggle to sleep deeply or who need to reduce fatigue. It also works well to relax muscles, help a person recover after intense activity, as well as to regulate intestinal function in those who struggle with constipation.
Excessive magnesium consumption can cause an undesired laxative effect, and in combination with medications, it may have other side effects.
How to take magnesium citrate
Magnesium is found naturally in foods like cacao, legumes, nuts, and sunflower and flax seeds. As a supplement, it is usually sold in powder or in capsules that can be consumed with water before or after meals. The maximum recommended daily dosage is 250 mg for adults.
Magnesium citrate: Where to buy it
Food supplements can be found at pharmacies and on online shopping platforms.
