Bodies of two missing British women who went for night swim found
Victims had defied stormy seas that later delayed rescue efforts in Lloret de Mar

A Civil Guard rescue helicopter has discovered the bodies of two British woman who disappeared in the early hours of Thursday morning after going for a night swim in stormy seas around Lloret de Mar (Girona province).
The two corpses were found three nautical miles south from the spot where they disappeared in the Catalan coastal resort and were taken to Puerto de Blanes.
The pair were part of a group of five British women on vacation in the popular Catalan resort who were taking photos on the Platja Gran beach at around 4am on Thursday morning.
Despite the stormy weather affecting the coast at the time, and ignoring the warnings of a security guard watching over a nearby beach bar, two of them decided to go for a dip. One of them managed to get out of the water immediately, but the other was unable to escape. Another member of the group went in to try to help her, but the sea pulled them both in, explained local Civil Protection chief, Felip Carbonell.

After receiving the alert, the police warned marine rescue services, which deployed a boat and a helicopter.
The sea was so rough that it initially prevented the rescue boat from beginning its search, the Mossos d’Esquadra regional police reported.
The three companions of the dead women were receiving psychological treatment in the hotel where they were staying on Thursday morning.
Lloret de Mar is a popular destination for young tourists from Europe, particularly Britain and Germany.
