Two gorings at the seventh Running of the Bulls, the fastest of the week
The high speed of the charging animals saw plenty of violent falls
The seventh and penultimate Running of the Bulls in Pamplona on Monday morning featured five bulls from the Domingo Hernández Martín stockbreeder and another from Garcigrande. The run was the fastest of the week so far, lasting just two minutes and 12 seconds, and saw two serious gorings: one in the leg of a runner on Mercaderes street, and another in the abdomen at the end of Estafeta street.
A third runner was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises, according to news agency EFE.
As the bulls charged on there were plenty of gaps between them for the runners to fill, but that also meant a lot of pushing and shoving and violent falls
The tame bullocks, headed by the largest animal, took the lead as soon as the doors to the pen were opened on the Cuesta de Santo Domingo.
Once the main square was reached, one of the four black bulls from the herd had moved up to first place and on Mercaderes street the animals spread out to take the bend into Estafeta street. On the corner, the third bull slipped and was trapped for several seconds underneath one of the wooden fences.
As the bulls charged on there were plenty of gaps between them for the runners to fill, but that also meant a lot of pushing and shoving and violent falls.
The final run into the bullring also saw more runners falling to the ground, to be trampled by passing feet or hooves.
The bullring itself, however, was clear of people thanks to the excellent organization of the staff at the plaza and the dobladores, whose job it is to usher the animals into their pen.
This afternoon, from 6.30pm onwards, the bulls that ran on Monday morning from the Domingo Hernández and Garcigrande stockbreeders will be fought in the Monumental de Pamplona by bullfighters Juan José Padilla, El Juli and Miguel Ángel Perera.
