Civil Guard reveals list of Spain’s 10 most wanted criminals
Law enforcement agency issues rare call for international help to find fugitives
Two Spaniards are included on the Civil Guard’s list of 10 most-wanted criminals. In a first for Spain, which does not usually issue international calls for help, the law enforcement agency has asked colleagues from around 20 countries for assistance finding the dangerous individuals.
At a press conference held on Monday, Commander Oscar Esteban handed out a list with the mug shot, description and criminal history of each fugitive, and explained that the Civil Guard was asking international police bodies and concerned citizens for their cooperation “because of the seriousness of the crimes and because of the difficulty locating them.”
Esteban provided a short presentation for each of the 10 criminals on the run, nine men and a woman. The Spaniards are Juan Monteagudo Marmol, wanted for sexually abusing his daughter and battering his wife, and Jorge Simarro Arbiza, a drug trafficker.
The others on the list were said to hail from Paraguay, Romania, Venezuela, Ukraine, Italy, France, Morocco and the former Yugoslavia. They are wanted for crimes ranging from homicide to mafia activity.
“They are 10 of around 500 individuals with international arrest warrants against them in Spain,” said Esteban, adding that they could be “in any other country.”
