Rodríguez misses out on fifth world final
Runner knocked out in semifinal of the 1,500 meters in Moscow
Spain's Natalia Rodríguez missed out on making her fifth 1,500 meters final at the World Championships in Moscow on Tuesday. The Tarragona-born runner, who won the country's only medal at the last championships — a bronze — finished eighth in the second semifinal with a time of 4:09.18.
On a disappointing day in general for Spain's athletes in Moscow, neither Sergio Sánchez nor Alemayehu Bezabeh were able to qualify for the final of the 5,000 meters — only the third time in history that the country has been left without a representative in the event. In the final of the men's discus, Spain's Jennifer Frank Casañas and Mario Pestano finished ninth and 12th, respectively, while Diana Martín managed 11th in the women's 3,000 meters steeplechase final.
