‘White march’ held to prompt healthcare policy rethink
Madrid hospital workers protest cutbacks and privatization drive
A sea of white-clad healthcare workers swept over the capital on Sunday to protest government cutbacks in the sector, as well as the Madrid region's plans to privatize several hospitals.
Columns of demonstrators numbering around 1,000 each departed from several hospitals at different points in the city and converged on Cibeles square.
"The people worst affected will be the users, as always," said a hospital director. "It is impossible to continue like this. Reforms have to be done in a more thoughtful way."
