King's hunting mishap "at no cost to taxpayers"

The government said Wednesday that the accident suffered by King Juan Carlos during a controversial elephant-hunting trip to Botswana in April "had not generated any additional costs to the public coffers."

The monarch fractured his hip during the trip and was transferred back to Madrid on the same private jet that he had been flown out on.

The king was invited on the trip by Saudi businessman Mohamed Eyad Kayali, who lives in Spain. The king subsequently publicly acknowledged the trip had been a mistake. The government also said it was aware the monarch was on the trip at the time.
