Father of missing Córdoba kids arrested

Police base detention on series of inconsistencies in man's story

Police investigating the case of two children who went missing in Córdoba last week have arrested their father, investigation sources have confirmed.

The main motive for the arrest was the multiple contradictions in the story José Bretón Gómez has given during questioning. Bretón continues to deny any involvement in events, but has nevertheless been detained because he was the last known person to have the children in his custody and has not given information about his whereabouts, say investigation sources.

According to their father, Ruth Bretón, six, and her brother José, two, disappeared in Córdoba's Cruz Conde park, but no evidence has yet been found they were there. Police continue to search the family home outside the city and say they have circumstantial evidence of a possible homicide.
