Hillary Clinton to make first official Spain visit this weekend

Afghanistan, Libya and Arab Spring on the agenda for meetings with government officials

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will make her first official visit to Spain this weekend, according to American and Spanish diplomatic sources. Clinton is expected to arrive in Madrid from Vilnius in Lithuania, where she is scheduled to attend the Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies on Friday.

In Spain she will be received by King Juan Carlos, Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Foreign Minister Trinidad Jiménez before returning to Washington. Afghanistan, Libya, the Arab uprisings and Latin America, especially Cuba and Venezuela, are all likely to be on her Madrid agenda.

The visit will be the first by a US secretary of state since Condoleezza Rice's stay in June 2007.
