ETA suspect found in Mexico on Facebook

Luis Miguel Ipiña had published books to his name and a clean record in his adopted country

A suspected ETA member has been arrested in Mexico, where he had been living under his own name after fleeing the surveillance of authorities in the Basque Country for his alleged links to the terrorist organization.

Luis Miguel Ipiña, alias "Torero," was detained by a Mexican anti-terrorism and arms trafficking unit last Friday in Querétaro, where he had been living openly. Ipiña, 60, even had a Facebook profile with his photograph attached. He has published two books, Basque exiles and A Mexican in the Basque Country. The former concerns the lives of "a few honorable men seeking a dignified way to live in exile and who have never committed the slightest crime in the country that has taken them in."

Ipiña's arrest brings to 43 the number of ETA-related detentions in 2011.
