Uefa opens case against Barça's Busquets for racist abuse
Midfielder faces scrutiny for alleged slur during clásico
As FC Barcelona basked in the glory and acclaim of a third consecutive Liga title on Thursday, less flattering words emanated from Uefa headquarters, which confirmed it will investigate claims that Sergio Busquets racially insulted Real Madrid defender Marcelo during the ill-tempered Champions League semifinal clash between the two teams.
"Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated the Uefa disciplinary code by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid player," the continental authority said in a statement. If found guilty, Busquets faces a five-match European ban that could render him unavailable for the Champions League final against Manchester United later this month.
