Prince Charles between a lock and a rock on state visit
Heir to British throne faces questions over future of Gibraltar
When Prince Charles arrived in Spain on an official visit on Wednesday he dined with his Spanish counterpart, Crown Prince Felipe. On the table, in addition to a royal menu, was the thorny issue of Gibraltar.
On Thursday, the heir to the British throne met the Spanish prime minister. The two statesmen discussed inter-religious affairs, climate change and Anglo-Spanish economic affairs, among other issues, including the future of "The Rock." Spanish government sources said that while Gibraltar had been discussed, no new diplomatic path had been opened on the sovereignty issue.
Charles was also given the keys to the city of Madrid. "I hope they don't change the lock," he joked.
