Libyan embassador in Madrid remaining loyal to Gaddafi
Madrid mission says Al Qaeda responsible for opposition to dictator
Despite the wave of defections by Libyan diplomats, with envoys to France and Portugal now having joined those who have resigned in protest at Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's violent response to opponents of his regime, the ambassador in Spain has yet to distance himself from the besieged government in Tripoli.
A spokesman from Libya's Madrid Embassy said "the question is not
whether the embassy supports Gaddafi or the rebels, but rather whether it is with Al Qaeda or the Libyan people."
"In Libya there are no insurgents, only members of Al Qaeda," he added.
