Hilary Swank reveals she is pregnant with twins at 48: ‘It’s a total miracle’
The Oscar-winning actress, who is married to businessman Philip Schneider, says it something that she has ‘been wanting for a long time’
Actress Hilary Swank announced on Wednesday that she is pregnant with twins. “This is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time, and my next thing is I’m going to be a mom,” said Swank during an interview with Good Morning America. “And not just of one, but of two. I can’t believe it.”
The 48-year-old – who won Oscars for her performance in Boys Don’t Cry in 1999 and Million Dollar Baby in 2004 – said that she kept her pregnancy a secret until her second trimester. “It’s so nice to be able to talk about it and share it,” she said.
Swank later appeared on Live with Kelly and Ryan, where she admitted that even the crew on her new series Alaska Daily didn’t know she was pregnant until her Wednesday announcement.
“But my clothes started not to fit so I had to, the other day ... cut [my jeans] open. And then I put a jacket on that wasn’t in continuity,” the actress recalled. “And [they] came and said, ‘That’s not in continuity.’ I said, ‘Oh, I think it works.’ ‘It doesn’t.’ ‘No, it does. I’m going to make it work.’ She’s like, ‘If you’re an executive producer, you can do it, but this is weird.’”
Swank added that there are a lot of twins in both her family and her husband’s, Philip Schneider. Swank married Schneider in August 2018, after a two-year relationship. She was previously married to actor Chad Lowe (brother of actor Rob Lowe) for nearly 10 years.
“It’s such a blessing. It’s a total miracle. It’s unbelievable,” she said of her pregnancy.
Swank is not the first Hollywood star to become a parent after 45. Actress Chloë Sevigny had her first child at the age of 45, in 2020. Cameron Diaz became a mother at the age of 47, as did Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon. Singer Janet Jackson gave birth to a boy in January 2017, when she was 50 years old. And, in the summer of 2019, actress Brigitte Nielsen became a mother at the age of 55.
