In the summer of 2019, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s wedding was one of the most-followed on the planet. A luxurious wedding in a French castle between a successful singer and a renowned actress that seemed straight out of a fairy tale. But in the summer of 2023, the summer of broken hearts, the spell has been shattered. The couple filed for divorce in a Miami court on Tuesday. They started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017 and have two children together, a three-year-old girl and a 14-month-old girl.

Various American media have confirmed that it was the musician, a member of the Jonas Brothers, who filed the lawsuit alleging problems between the couple. His lawyer, Tom Sasser, was also in charge of divorce proceedings for the golfer Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin Nordegren, a decade ago. In the legal documents leaked by the media it is stated that the marriage is “irretrievably broken.” They both signed a prenuptial contract before the wedding and both will be responsible for supporting their two daughters.

That the couple’s divorce was imminent had been rumored since Friday, when it emerged that Jonas had hired a divorce expert, although he himself did not provide any explanations. In fact, he appeared to deny those rumors when he was seen at a weekend concert wearing his wedding ring, which he had not worn at a couple of gigs in August, and even one in New York that Turner herself attended. However, on Sunday it became public knowledge that the brother of Nick and Kevin Jonas was in touch with two Los Angeles lawyers specializing in split-ups, fueling tumors that were confirmed this Tuesday.

In another sign that the couple’s shared life was in crisis, their Miami mansion was put up for sale. With its six bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a private dock, the property was sold for $15 million, according to People.

As a family, they had managed to stay more or less away from the spotlight, given their very high media profiles. Joe, 34, is one of the members of the family pop band The Jonas Brothers, with fans all over the planet; Sophie, 27, was one of the stars of the series Game of Thrones, where she played Sansa Stark, and she is also part of the X-Men saga, where she plays the Dark Phoenix.

The couple met in 2016 through mutual friends; They followed each other on Instagram, they started sending direct messages and the connection was immediate. They announced their engagement in October 2017 and, although the wedding had to wait, there were finally two of them. In May 2019, they got married by surprise in Las Vegas, in a wedding officiated by a fake Elvis Presley after the Billboard Awards ceremony. It was attended by Joe’s two brothers, Kevin and Nick, and the latter’s wife, actress Priyanka Chopra. Jonas and Turner then got married again in France, in a luxurious ceremony held at the end of June 2019 at the Chateau de Tourreau, in Provence. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in an idyllic resort in the Maldives. A year later they welcomed their daughter, Willa, and in 2022 they had a second little girl whose name is unknown.
