How much does it cost to eat at the world’s 50 best restaurants: The most expensive is in Denmark and the cheapest is in Japan

In Spain, the priciest spot on the list is DiverXO, while the most affordable is Elkano

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is published by the British media company William Reed. However, it is a controversial ranking, as there are no guarantees that the anonymous voters have actually visited the restaurants they cite.

In the last edition, held in June in Turin, the top spot went to Maido in Lima, Peru. Leading the list does not mean it is the most expensive: chef Mitsuharu Tsumura, known as Micha, offers a menu costing €288.29 ($317) without drinks. This is far from the €724 ($796) charged by Rasmus Munk, the chef and creative mind behind the Danish restaurant Alchemist in Copenhagen. At Alchemist, diners can also reserve the exclusive Sommelier’s Table, which includes a wine pairing from top producers, coffee, tea, and a digestif, for €2,199 ($2,419) per person.

Other high-ticket restaurants include:

  • Kadeau (41st place, Copenhagen) – menu €496 ($546)
  • Frantzén (38th place, Stockholm) – menu €493 ($542),
  • Table by Bruno Verjus (8th place, Paris) – menu €480 ($528)
  • Plénitude (14th place, Paris) – menu €480 ($528)
  • DiverXO (4th place, Madrid) – menu €450 ($495)

At the lower end of the price spectrum is Florilège (26th place, Tokyo) with a lunch menu at €70 ($77) and a dinner menu at €134 ($147), averaging €102 ($112). Chef Hiroyasu Kawate, trained in France, offers a French-style culinary experience around a 13-meter table, emphasizing vegetables.

Other relatively affordable options include:

  • Septime (40th place, Paris) – lunch €85 ($94), dinner €135 ($149), average €110 ($121)
  • Le Du (Bangkok, Thailand) – menus of €120 and €147 ($132–$162), average €133.5 ($147)
  • Lido 84 (16th place, Gardone Riviera, Italy) – menus of €140 and €160 ($154–$176), average €150 ($165)
  • Nusara (35th place, Bangkok) – menu €159 ($175)

Among the four Spanish restaurants in the ranking, the average cost is €281 ($309). These include:

  • DiverXO (Madrid) – €450 ($495)
  • Etxebarri (Axpe, 2nd place) – €280 ($308), famous for Bittor Arginzoniz’s grill mastery
  • Elkano (Getaria, 24th place) – €195 ($215), renowned for seafood, especially turbot
  • Enigma (Barcelona, 34th place) – €240 ($264), showcasing Albert Adrià’s creative cuisine
