‘Julieta’ marks a return for the director to his familiar territory of dramas focused on women

The new trailer for ‘Julieta.’

After the release of a teaser, which contained not much more than just a few seconds of film, Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar and his production company, El Deseo, today launched the first official trailer for his upcoming movie.

In the trailer, which for now is only available in Spanish, a number of the film’s protagonists are revealed, and a few plot points are hinted at. The movie will be released in Spanish cinemas on April 8.

The teaser trailer for ‘Julieta’ (with English subtitles).

“By chance the best period of Julieta’s life was the 1980s, and her life right now is a catastrophe with no apparent solution,” explains the press release with which El Deseo announced the project back in March 2015. “Only a miracle will save her. And sometimes miracles do happen…” The film will revolve around “destiny, a guilt complex and an unfathomable mystery: the abandonment of a loved one.”

The film was initially entitled Silence, but the filmmaker decided to change it given that Martin Scorcese is currently finalizing a movie of the same name. Julieta tells the story of a woman, who is played at different ages by Adriana Ugarte and Emma Suárez, and deals with how to overcome the pain of loss and the abandonment of loved ones.
