Javier Bardem performs surprise dance at U2 Barcelona show
Actor and wife Penélope Cruz join in with Irish group on stage at weekend concert
That U2 still has the power to attract thousands of fans was patent last week, when the band played four sold-out shows at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi.
The Irish group’s concerts also regularly draw their fair share of celebrity fans, and this weekend was no exception – but this time, two of them briefly became part of the show themselves.
Bardem’s identity was initially concealed under a blue sequin hat, a blue feather boa and a blond wig
Spanish star couple Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz joined Bono and his bandmates on stage during the performance of their classic Mysterious Ways. U2 is currently touring to promote its latest album, Songs of Innocence.
First it was Bardem who jumped up on stage on Saturday night, although his identity was initially concealed under a blue sequin hat, a blue feather boa and what appeared to be a blond wig.
The 46-year-old Oscar winner performed a sensual dance around Bono as the latter belted out one of the band’s best-known songs.

At the end of the number, 41-year-old Cruz – herself an Oscar winner for Vicky Cristina Barcelona – showed up on stage in a blonde wig and black bunny ears. She then pretended to get angry at Bono for taking her husband away, and took cellphone pictures of Bardem with the members of the band.
After the actor was jokingly removed from the stage by security personnel, Cruz remained to join in with the next song, Desire, embracing Bono at the end of the performance. The two stars have known each other for several years after collaborating on numerous charity projects together.

It was a rare public appearance by a pair of actors who normally try to avoid the limelight. Later, the band members posted a picture of themselves alongside Bardem and Cruz on their Instagram account.
Another famous face to attend one of the band’s Barcelona concerts was Spain’s Queen Letizia, who showed up with four girl friends.
