After Osuna and Seville, ‘Game of Thrones’ will return to film in Spain

Game of Thrones is coming back to Spain. The cable network behind the hit fantasy TV show, HBO, has released a statement confirming the rumor that part of the sixth season will be filmed in a number of locations in the Spanish cities of Girona (Catalonia) and Peñíscola (Valencia), among others.

The shoots, which are planned for later this year, will take place with the collaboration of the councils of Girona and Peñiscola, their respective mayors, Carles Puigdemont and Andrés Martínez Castellá, and the film offices of both cities. The Spanish production units will be under the supervision of Fresco Film Services, as was the case when the series came to Seville and Osuna to shoot late last year. More details about the Spain shoot will be announced at a later date.

A few weeks ago, the president of Endemol Spain, Jordi Bosch, revealed in a radio interview that HBO was considering Girona as one of the locations for the upcoming season. Now that rumor has been confirmed, and, after filming parts of season five in the Alcázar and the bullring in Seville and in Osuna, the production team will be returning to Spain.

Based on the bestselling series of books by George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones is currently on its fifth season, which is being broadcast in Spain on Canal+. Shooting of season six will get underway in Belfast at the end of July.
