EFFECTS OF THE CRISIS

Are you rich, poor or average? Calculate your share of the pie

An OECD application lets you compare your income levels with those of the rest of the population

Miguel Jiménez

Inequality between the rich and the poor has reached record levels in industrialized countries, according to the latest report from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which was published on Thursday. The crisis has widened this gap in economies such as Spain’s, due to, among other factors, higher taxation and social spending cuts, the document concludes. To coincide with the release of the report from the OECD, the international economic organization – aimed at stimulating economic progress and world trade – has launched an interactive application that allows users to calculate the situation of their household income compared to the rest of the population in just 10 clicks. The application includes data for all of the OECD countries, including Spain, Mexico and Chile.
