EL PAÍS offices evacuated after suspicious package left at entrance
Man speeds off in taxi after dropping box off at Madrid headquarters

EL PAÍS’s main offices in Madrid were evacuated on Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious package was left at the premises.
A man entered the offices, which are also home to sports newspaper AS and business daily Cinco Días, just before 2pm to leave the package, which police later confirmed to be harmless.
When security informed him that deliveries had to be made at another door, the man insisted upon leaving the package there and left, departing in the same taxi in which he had arrived.
Security personnel passed the box through the scanner and, concerned that it could contain some kind of explosive, alerted the National Police and ordered the building to be evacuated.
Police later found that the box contained a bottle connected in rudimentary form by a wire to a spray can but did not pose any danger. Workers were eventually able to return to their desks after just over an hour.
