More animated fun with the latest Madagascar movie, and Julie Delpy's Skylab
After Madagascar and continental Africa, stranded Central Park Zoo animals Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) are washed up in Monte Carlo in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. Accompanied by King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen), they soon find themselves touring Europe as part of a traveling circus, hoping to impress the promoters enough to take the show back to the Big Apple. The voices of Bryan Cranston, Martin Short, Jessica Chastain, Frances McDormand and Spain's Paz Vega also feature in this first 3D adventure in the animation series.
Directed by and starring Julie Delpy, French comedy Le Skylab is set in the summer of 1979, and sees 10-year-old Albertine and her family get together in Brittany to celebrate her grandmother's birthday while the world worries about NASA's damaged Skylab space station falling to earth.
There's more continental comedy, of the action-thriller kind, in Spanish movie Impávido , which stars Julián Villagrán ( Extraterrestre ) as a car thief who loses the money he'd earmarked to pay back the gambling debts he owes to a mean mob boss. Thankfully, his business partner agrees to throw him a lifeline: he'll stake him the cash, if he finds him the girl he's looking for. Fuga de Cerebros 2 director Carlos Therón's film stars Manolo Solo, Nacho Vidal, Marta Torné and Pepón Nieto.
Finally, Terraferma is an Italian drama about Sicilian fishermen clashing with immigration legislation, which punishes them for helping illegal migrants stranded at sea. Emanuele Crialese's film won the Special Jury Prize at Venice.
