Judge charges union leaders over air-traffic stoppage
Management board of Trade Union of Air Traffic Controllers (USCA) accused of inciting wildcat strike
A judge investigating a wildcat strike by air-traffic controllers, which caused havoc during a key holiday period in December of last year, has formally accused all of the management board of the Trade Union of Air Traffic Controllers (USCA) of inciting the stoppage.
Spanish wire service EFE cited judicial sources as saying the judge had also accepted a suit for damages from a group of people affected by the stoppage. The lawyer for the group, Luis Vericat, welcomed the news, insisting that the strike was part of a "plan thought up and organized by the leaders of the union."
The air-traffic controllers had been in dispute with the government regarding overtime. Some 400 controllers simultaneously abandoned their posts or failed to turn up for work.
