Civil guard shoots dead ex-lover in Madrid gym
Officer shoots former boyfriend six times then turns gun on himself
A Civil Guard sergeant murdered his ex-boyfriend in a Madrid gymnasium Tuesday, police said. Ángel Luis J. T. entered the Holiday Gym in the capital's Chamartín district at around 4.30pm and shot Marcos H., a lifeguard at the gym's swimming pool, five times in the chest and once in the head.
After committing the crime, the aggressor turned one of two pistols he was carrying on himself and fired a single round into his own head. He was taken to the Gregorio Marañon hospital in a stable but critical condition.
Fernando, a monitor at the gym, told Efe news agency that those present at the time of the shooting initially thought the noise was from workmen.
Víctor, a gym member, said the shots sounded like hammer blows. Another witness said the two men, who were well known at the gym, arrived together.
